Swedish Trade Deficit Shrinks in October
Sweden’s trade gap narrowed to SEK 4.0 billion in October 2019 from SEK 90 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Exports of goods rose 0.8 percent from a year earlier to SEK 137.0 billion, driven by sales to non-EU countries (+6.2 percent) while those to the EU fell (-2.9 percent). Also, imports fell 2.7 percent to SEK 141.0 billion, dragged down by purchases from both EU countries (-0.9 percent) and non-EU countries (-6.6 percent). In January to October, the country’s trade balance shifted to a surplus of SEK 17.7 billion, compared to a deficit of SEK 36.0 billion a year ago, as exports climbed 6 percent while imports advanced 2 percent.

Swedish Trade Surplus Widens in September
Sweden’s trade surplus rose slightly to SEK 2.0 billion in September 2019 from SEK 1.8 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Exports of goods rose 3.6 percent to 127.8 billion, driven by sales to non-EU countries (11.7 percent) while those to the EU fell (-1.6 percent). Imports went up by 3.5 percent to SEK 125.8 billion, boosted by higher purchases from the EU (6.7 percent) while those from non-EU countries dropped (-3.8 percent). In January to September, the country's trade balance shifted to a surplus of SEK 21.2 billion compared to a deficit of SEK 27.0 billion, as exports and imports grew 7 percent and 2 percent, respectively.

Sweden’s trade deficit narrowed to SEK 5.4 billion in August 2019 from SEK 8.0 billion in the same month last year. Exports of goods increased by 1 percent to SEK 113.5 billion, boosted by sales to non-EU countries (4.1 percent) while those to the EU dropped (-1.6 percent). Meanwhile, imports dropped by 2 percent to SEK 118.9 billion, due to lower purchases from both the EU (-0.7 percent) and non-EU countries (-3.2 percent). In January to August, the trade balance posted a surplus of SEK 27.0 billion from a gap of SEK 26.2 billion in the same period of 2018, as exports jumped 8 percent and imports rose at a softer 2 percent.

Sweden Trade Balance Swings to Surplus in July
Sweden’s trade balance shifted to a SEK 6.7 billion surplus in July 2019 from a SEK 1.2 billion deficit in the same month of the previous year. Exports rose 13.2 percent over a year earlier to SEK 122.8 billion while imports increased at a softer 5.8 percent to SEK 116.1 billion. The number of weekdays in July 2019 was one more compared with July 2018. Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 16.2 billion and with the EU trade resulted in a shortfall of SEK 9.5 billion. Considering first seven months of the year, Sweden recorded a SEK 30.9 billion surplus, compared to a SEK 18.2 billion gap in the corresponding period of 2018.

Swedish Trade Surplus Widens Sharply in June
Sweden’s trade surplus widened to SEK 2.9 billion in June 2019 from SEK 0.5 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Exports fell 3 percent over a year earlier to SEK 122.5 billion and imports dropped at a faster 5 percent to SEK 119.6 billion. The number of weekdays in June 2019 was one less compared with June 2018. Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 14.6 billion, while EU trade resulted in a shortfall of SEK 11.7 billion. Considering the half of the year, Sweden recorded a surplus of SEK 26.7 billion, compared to a SEK 17.0 billion deficit in the same period one year ago.

Swedish Trade Balance Swings to Surplus
Sweden posted a trade surplus of SEK 8.3 billion in May 2019, compared to a SEK 6.4 billion deficit in the same month last year, as exports jumped 10 percent to SEK 136.9 billion while imports dropped 2 percent to SEK 128.6 billion. Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 21.5 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 13.2 billion. Considering the first five months of the year, Sweden recorded a surplus of SEK 23.2 billion, compared to a SEK 17.5 billion gap in the corresponding period one year ago.
