Senegal Inflation Rate at 3.30 percent


The annual inflation rate in Senegal rose to 3.3 percent in April of 2020 from 2.5 percent in the previous month. This was the highest inflation rate since June of 2011, mainly due to surging prices of transport (5.2 percent vs 3.1 percent in March) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.8 percent vs 2.6 percent in March), amid shortages caused by Covid-19 disruptions. Also, inflation edged higher for housing & utilities (1 percent vs 0.9 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 1.1 percent, after increasing 0.1 percent in the preceding month.
